An accurate 2D finite element model of the Audi e-Tron induction motor has been developed in G2Elab with Altair FluxMotorTM software. This new model can be downloaded.

Audi is one of the most iconic representatives of the premium electric vehicle on the market. For their flagship vehicle, the Audi e-Tron, they made the less common choice to use a squirrel cage induction machine. Thus, the paper presents a 2D finite element model of the AUDI e-Tron electric motor series and reviews its performances and design choices. The numerical model is created using Altair FluxMotorTM software after having gathered the main data on this machine. After validating the model by comparing simulation results with theoretical performances, the voltage-frequency control curve is established, aside with the highest efficiency working points. Although this 2D model is still perfectible, it is well representative of the performance of the real motor and useful for further simulations.

This article is presented at International Conference IEEE Vehicular Power and Propulsion 2021 (VPPC 2021). Its title is "2D finite element model of the Audi e-Tron induction motor". The authors are Hugo HUSSON, Robin THOMAS, Lauric GARBUIO from G2Elab's research teams.
This paper will be available very soon on HAL.

Downloadable model description

The downloadable model is the Audi e-Tron induction motor 2D finite element electromagnetic model made with Altair FluxMotorTM software that is presented in the paper. The modeled machine is the APA250 but it can be modified to represent the AKA320 (or other motors of the e-Tron line-up) by simply adapting the specified total length. This model is still under investigations and will be updated occasionaly. However, it can already be used for pedagogical purposes or to carry out retro-engineering studies on the design or operation of the machine. The files are shared under a CC-BY 4.0 license.
